Why Media Psychology?

It was less than one year ago that I first heard of a PhD program Media Psychology. I was completing my Master’s Degree in Online Teaching and Learning from Colorado State University-Global Campus (the online branch of CSU), and I was considering further studies. I explored education programs at several institutions before I discovered the program at FGU.

I plan to focus on education especially how it relates to media, technology, and the developing world. I have worked on seven projects for Habitat for Humanity in the developing world. Here are several children from a project I worked on last year. This is one reason I decided to work in education.

This interesting website was given to me by a friend of mine. To me, it highlights a direction education can take to become more effective and more meaningful to a culture.

I am also a gadget guy and a bit of a futurist. I see great promise in a device like the Apple iPad. The integration of media with tools, Internet access, and new software might be used to significantly improve education in poorer communities across the world.

Mike Introduction

I live near Denver, Colorado. The first 20 years of my career were spent exclusively in graphics software and human computer interface development. In recent years, I have been an entrepreneur focusing more on business and early stage companies. My most recent project was leading a technical team in creating a wonderful new web site combining media and psychology to assist people in spiritual need (site will become commercial later this year).

I am now about two months into a new venture leading a digital publish company called Essential10. (Take a Look)

I recently completed my Master of Science in Online Teaching from Colorado State University-Global Campus. This was an online degree for teaching online. I like the symmetry there!

I do several Habitat for Humanity projects each year in the developing world and hope pursue research in media, culture, and education in the developing world.
